Future Shipping Electrified

PBI supports industry consortium in the development of large-scale fully electric zero emission RoPax ship concept and business case.

PBI is coordinating a two-year development project for a zero emission fully electric short-sea/RoPax ship concept and business case, together with key players in the marine and energy industry. Beyond cutting edge, a first of a kind, and a giant leap forward in reducing emissions in shipping.

FUSE (Future Shipping Electrified) is a consortium project led by Rauma Marine Constructions and with partners Viking Line, Carinafour, Åbo Akademi and Aalto University. Together, they have received a total of approximately 2.4 million euros in funding from Business Finland and the provincial government of Åland. The goal of FUSE is to develop a fully electric RoPax ship concept. The Port of Helsinki, Fortum Spring, DNV, Helen Electricity Network and Wärtsilä are also involved in the project. The project is highly significant in supporting the maritime industry's transition towards full electrification and zero emission solutions, as well as in enabling green maritime corridors. It will strengthen the project companies' competitive advantage and pioneering status in the global market.
